I have been involved in bookselling and publishing since 1988 when I graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art, University of London, where I studied painting. I was one of the weekend Clore Gallery bookshop supervisors at the Tate Gallery then moved to Zwemmer’s bookshop at the Whitechapel Art Gallery where I was part of the buying team. I was the Sales and Distribution Manager at Book Works, a publisher of books by contemporary artists, where I developed a new sales and distribution strategy for the organisation, and made extensive contacts with bookshops, publishers, galleries and artists in the UK, Europe and the USA. Working part-time, I maintained my studio practice as an artist and exhibited occasionally.
More recently, I returned to university as a mature student, graduating from the London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, with an MA in Graphic Design. My graduation, at the end of 2011, coincided with an opportunity to move to Edinburgh, a city which I know and love, having visited Scotland at least once a year as part of my role at Book Works. My involvement in books continues: as a graphic designer, I specialise in book design and typography, collaborating largely with arts organisations and galleries; and, of course, in my part-time employment as the Yale Sales Representative for Scotland, where I am pleased to be working with contacts both old and new.
